Lots of construction and plenty of farming on the go, which sure makes travelling interesting ... Be careful out there on the roads.

Wishing Jack Aitchison a very happy 75th birthday, and to Carolyn Farrell and Dawson Colling, from your friends at the Grove and area.

The Kincardine Lions Giant Yard Sale at the Davidson Centre was well-attended and received a lot of support for their All-Wheel Park project.

Sympathy to the families of Winnie Siegel, Ken Thomson, and Hugh MacInnes of Edmonton, brother of Mac (Anne) MacInnes, who passed away recently.

Jo and Marilyn Reid and Jamie attended the bridal shower for Courtney, fiancée of Ryan Husk, held at the Kinloss Community Centre, Saturday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the many family and friends out west battling all those wildfires at this time. It is truly amazing that we are experiencing smoke from those fires here in Ontario. That smoke continues to cause issues for those with breathing problems, along with the blue haze and poor air quality here.

Jim and Fran Farrell visited recently with Clayton and Brenda Farrell, and with John and Joyce Farrell. Clara and Lane Farrell of Holstein spent an overnight visit with their cousins, Paisley and Nora, at the home of Grandpa and Grandma, recently.

PURPLE GROVE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The Purple Grove W.I. met at the Purple Grove Community Centre, Wednesday night (June 4).

Our hostess, Wilma Sutton, greeted 11 members and our guest speaker, Alcinda Douglas, who did some show-and-tell about the larger projects she creates from Upcycled Material, including decorated wooden letters, rings from silver utensils, and many other pieces of jewellery. We are planning a workshop, involving her expertise and use of recycled items to take home (so stay tuned for more information).

Acting president Bren de Leeuw welcomed everyone to the meeting, opening with the Opening Ode followed by the Mary Stewart Collect. Scripture also was prepared by Bren, and Roll Call brought forth many replies when asked, “What do you do with your spare time?”

A report was given about the Bruce County W.I. District Annual held in Chesley, May 22. Minutes from the last meeting and May Night Out were read and adopted, the treasury report was given by our secretary Fran, Farrell.

The Women's Institute Grace was sung, followed by a delicious lunch provided by Christine and Robyn Bridge, ending with a good visit and fellowship.

Our president thanked everyone for coming out and to those who contributed to the evening duties, then discussed our next meeting, being our programming committee meeting for June 26. The workshop date is to be determined, location, cost and invitations, as well as a summer excursion being headed by Marilyn Reid and Cheryl Bridge.
