Costly errors undermine strong second half for Huron United Football Club
In its latest outing in the Tri-City Men’s Soccer League (June 10), the Huron United Football Club fell 3–0 to newly-formed side RED FC, with key defensive errors proving costly despite a promising second-half performance.
The match’s opening goal came in the 10th minute following a miscommunication in the Huron United back line. A routine goalkeeper-to-fullback pass turned into a disaster, leading to a two-on-one situation that RED FC clinically converted.
After regrouping at half-time, Huron United came out strong in the second half, controlling possession and building plays as discussed in the team huddle. However, the tide turned again in the 65th minute when a pass back to goalkeeper Josh Coleman went awry. A misplayed outlet pass gifted RED FC its second goal.
RED FC sealed the result in the 80th minute after a defensive miscue on a lofted ball. Although the initial shot struck the post and Coleman, the rebound fell kindly to RED’s forward who tapped in the third goal of the night.
Despite the result, Huron United showed moments of cohesion and resolve. Adam Carty was voted Man of the Match by his teammates, with honourable mentions going to Riley Cherrett and Masoom Saromie for their efforts.
