Huge crowd gathers for Canada Day parade and festivities in Kincardine
Thousands of people enjoyed the Canada Day parade and then gathered at the bottom of Harbour Street, Kincardine, for the ceremony, followed by activities in Macpherson and Dunsmoor Parks, Tuesday afternoon.

The parade formed up in Victoria Park, marching over to Queen Street, and down Harbour Street to the flag pole.

Leading the parade, were the Kincardine Legion Colour Party, local veterans, the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band and Teeswater Highlanders, and the Kincardine Air Cadets, followed by the Bruce Shriners (who marched only to Huron Terrace), and the Kincardine Scouts.

MC Ruby Jean, 11, of Kincardine welcomed everyone to the celebration of Canada’s 158th birthday.

Kincardine councillor Beth Blackwell gave the land acknowledgement, and mayor Kenneth Craig said it was great to see the sea of red-and-white coming down Harbour Street for the ceremony.

“Welcome, on behalf of the council and staff of the Municipality of Kincardine,” he said. “We stand here on the shoulders of our ancestors, and on the shoulders of those who for years organized Canada Day in Kincardine – Brad Kirkconnell, Mike Walsh, Kelly McDonald, Keith Davidson, and many more.

“Now, we are the shoulders that our children and grandchildren will stand on. We are so fortunate to live in a country that welcomes, and collaborates with, cultures from all over the world, that have built the Canada we live in today.

“Happy Canada Day, everyone!”

Christine John of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation sang the national anthem in Ojibway, French and English.

Ruby Jean then wowed the crowd with the performance of her song, "Kincardine."

From there, it was into Macpherson Park and Dunsmoor Park to enjoy numerous activities throughout the afternoon, including games, a foam machine, and balloon animals for the children, the Kincardine Lions barbecue, and musical entertainment.

The Kincardine Legion also hosted a Canada Day celebration, featuring Hwy 19, on the makeshift patio in the parking lot.

Canada Day activities were held in Tiverton, Saturday afternoon, and the fireworks were held Sunday night over Kincardine Harbour.
