In Catch the Ace news, we are working hard to accelerate the turn-around time, and we are hoping to be able to start up a new round before July is over. Stay tuned and watch the Facebook pages for updates.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we had two double-dippers — congratulations to Jane Bowers and Rod Shanks. The Hucks won the 50/50 draw and took home $108. If you’ve never been to a Meat Draw, drop down to the Legion on a Saturday between 2:30-5 p.m. to check it out, and perhaps win some meat!

It was a great night to be out of the rain at last Friday’s Trivia Night. Fun was had by all, and in the end it was Team Tequila Mockingbird that won. Thanks to Kincardine Pride for sponsoring the night.

Canada Day at the Legion was a huge success! Hwy 19 played all afternoon and into the evening and kept everyone entertained and dancing. Thanks to all those who joined the Legion for some fun, sun, food, drinks, and music on our parking lot patio and to celebrate our great country. As well, a giant thank you to all the Legion volunteers who made this day happen, from pre-planning of the event, to the set-up, prepping and cooking food, bartending, cleaning, running during the day, and then putting it all away, we appreciate you all! Funds raised during this day enable Branch 183 to support many local groups, charities and activities, and if you attended, you contributed.

We also thank our Branch 183 Colour Party and the Air Cadets for marching in the Canada Day parade and representing the Kincardine Legion.

On the donation front, Branch 183 was pleased to donate $500 to the West Coast Whitecaps, toward their 2025-26 season. This minor hockey organization is a new rep.-level hockey club established under the mandate of the WOAA as part of a two-year pilot program. Its purpose is to deliver a higher calibre of hockey within the association’s boundaries.
The Whitecaps let us know that our donation may be used to help off-set expenses, such as ice rentals, game official fees, administrative costs, and marketing or promotional materials. Additionally, funds may be directed toward reducing financial barriers for players in need, supporting team tournament participation, and providing specialized team training. For interested hockey fans, here is a little more information. This initiative — referred to as A-Zone Hockey — will launch in the 2025–26 season and span six A-Zones. Each zone will serve as the new foundation for rep. hockey within the WOAA, aligning with the OMHA’s broader vision for the development of hockey across Ontario. Good luck, Whitecaps!

The next Family Dinner is happening a little earlier in the month, on July 13. The menu will be smoked pork chops, scalloped potatoes and all the fixings, cooked by Jon Shaw.

The 2nd Annual Doug Kennedy Jersey Day Fund-raiser will feature free entertainment, beginning at 1 p.m., with music by TNT Boom and Local Anesthesia. The event carries on into the evening with music by The Ballaghs. Tickets are required for the evening portion and are on sale for $25 each, at the Legion Bar. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the band takes the stage at 8 p.m. Don’t forget to wear your jersey! All proceeds go to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation in memory of Doug.

Saturday, Sept. 27, is the 3rd Annual Lulu’s Band Hootenanny. Tickets are $40 each.
