Bervie W.I. learns more about the Kincardine Record from editor Liz Dadson
The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday morning. The meeting opened with the usual openings and president Bev Berndt gave the land acknowledgement.

Twelve members and four guests answered the Roll Call which was “What newspaper do you read?” Most said the on-line Kincardine Record.

Islay Eby introduced our guest speaker, Liz Dadson of the Kincardine Record who gave us some interesting insight into her 40 years (so far) in the newspaper business.

In the early days, she had to develop her own pictures and do the cut-and-paste of articles before the paper was sent off to the printers. She has been in Kincardine for 30 years and worked for several local newspapers before starting her own on-line paper in 2014.

The start-up had a few challenges but it is a very popular on-line paper which is read all over the world.

Liz covers as many local events as she can fit into her schedule and reports on them daily. A question period followed. Islay thanked Liz and presented her with a small gift.

Betty Jean White read the minutes of the last meeting and Islay gave the treasurer’s report. Sandra MacDonald gave the Sunshine Report and Ellen Waye the Tweedsmuir Report.

A donation will be made to the 2026 IPM quilt committee for prizes for the “Wearable Art” division. Ellen also reported that an on-line fund-raiser is being organized with Laurie Convay of Enjo to raise money for operating costs for the Federated Women’s Institute of Ontario. The zoom calls are July 10 at 2 p.m. and July 23 at 8 p.m.

The Grey Bruce District 125th anniversary quilt is now on display at Grey Roots Museum near Owen Sound for 2025 and will be at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton in 2026.

The meeting closed with the Closing Ode and God Save the King.

The next meeting will be at the Bruce Botanical Food Gardens in Ripley, Aug. 6 – meet at the church at 10 a.m.
