Louise Currie, formerly of Bruce Beach and Kincardine, dies at the age of 105
F. Louise Currie (nee Simmons), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, formerly of Bruce Beach and Kincardine, died peacefully in Burlington, July 3, 2025, at the age of 105.
Our beloved matriarch has joined her husband, daughters, siblings, and parents in rest.
Born in Paris, Ontario, to Gordon and Muriel Simmons, Louise was the last surviving of five siblings.
She grew up during the Great Depression — her bicycle and tennis racquet ever at her side — and carried that resilience and resourcefulness throughout her life.
In 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Eoin A. Currie of Ayr, Ontario, while he served during the Second World War. Together, they shared a life of love and service until his passing in 1986.
Louise was predeceased by her daughters, Barbara Lea (the late Anthony) and Elizabeth Cuddy (Michael); as well as her brothers, Donald, Robert, and Kenneth; and infant sister, Eleanor.
Lovingly remembered by her children, Frances (the late Raymond Gordon), David (Heather), Paul (Debbie), and Craig (Margo); and son-in-law, Michael Cuddy.
Louise’s legacy lives on in her 26 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom have been inspired by her wit, curiosity, and adventurous spirit.
A graduate of Macdonald Institute at the Ontario Agricultural College (now University of Guelph), Louise was a life-long learner and a pillar of her community. She was a life member of the United Church Women, District Commissioner of the Girl Guides, a life member of the Eastern Star (Meeting Waters Chapter), and a dedicated community volunteer.
Faith and service were central to her life. One United Church congregation in North York actually began in her living room.
Louise’s travels took her across Canada, the United States, and around the globe — always with a map in hand and a shortcut to share. Her sense of adventure was matched only by her sense of humour; when recently asked about her longevity, she quipped, “It’s taken a long time to get here!”
Her wisdom, warmth, and laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew her, especially her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Bruce Beach and Kincardine were her heart’s home, the gathering place for generations of family and friends. Her life was shaped by faith, family, and a deep sense of what truly matters.
Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Louise’s life and love, Monday, July 7, 2025, at Kincardine United Church, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the service at 12 p.m. Reception to follow at the Davey–Linklater Funeral Home.
