Red FC overpowers Huron United in tough 5-1 clash
The Huron United Football Club entered Sunday’s match-up against Red FC with redemption on its mind, looking to avenge a prior loss in this tightly-contested Tri-City Men's Soccer League (TMSL) rivalry. But the night at Spinrite Field quickly spiralled into a difficult affair for the Saugeen Shores-based side, as Red FC delivered a clinical attacking performance to secure a commanding 5-1 victory — its seventh win of the season, placing it atop the TMSL standings.

The match took a sour turn for Huron United just minutes after kick-off. A late challenge from central defensive midfielder Flynn Castles in the seventh minute led to a free kick 25 yards out. Red FC capitalized in spectacular fashion, curling the ball into the top right corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Josh Coleman.

Before Huron United had time to regroup, Red FC struck again. A through ball from the opposing centreback sliced open the defence, allowing a Red FC attacker to slot the ball into the bottom left corner. Two goals down inside 10 minutes, Huron United faced an uphill battle.

Despite the early setback, Huron United settled into the match. The team began creating chances, the most dangerous of which came from a fluid move down the right. James Tigert played the ball to Simon Andonian, who slipped a perfectly-timed through ball to James Jeffereys. With the keeper out of position, Jeffereys fired a strong shot just off target which missed narrowly to the right of goal.

The first half closed with Huron United regaining composure and containing Red FC’s offensive push.

Momentum shifted slightly early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, striker Gerrit Satosek forced a turn-over deep in Red FC territory. The play resulted in a penalty for Huron United, drawn by top-scorer Adam Carty. Carty made no mistake, converting confidently to the right side of the net — his sixth of the season — to make it 2-1.

Huron United’s resurgence was short-lived. In the 67th minute, a missed header by centreback Masoom Saromie in the box allowed Red FC to pounce and score its third of the night.

Just minutes later, Huron United nearly answered. Saromie sent a clever through ball to attacking midfielder Jihu Kim, springing him on a breakaway. Kim quickly recognized that the keeper had drifted off his line and attempted a chip. The idea was right, but the execution was just off — the ball sailing inches over the crossbar.

Huron United continued to press, including a dangerous one-timer from Ryan Schriek off a creative back-heel pass from Adam Carty, but Red FC’s keeper came up with a brilliant save to keep the scoreline intact. A pair of well-placed corner kicks from Flynn Castles added pressure, but didn’t yield a breakthrough.

Red FC, however, kept its foot on the gas. In the 82nd minute, a surging counter-attack down the left flank resulted in a powerful shot to the top left corner, extending its lead to 4-1. The final blow came in stoppage time, with the Red FC striker finishing clinically to pin the ball into the left corner, sealing a dominant 5-1 result.

Despite the loss, Huron United showed flashes of creativity and resilience. Satosek, Castles, and Coleman were named Players of the Game by their teammates for their determined performances under pressure.

Huron United now sits second in the TMSL standings with a 5-3-2 record. The squad draws from Kincardine, Port Elgin, and surrounding communities, proudly representing Saugeen Shores United Football Club. For updates, visit kdslsoccer.com.
