Municipality emphasizes its support of new senior school in Kincardine
Kincardine council has approved a motion, emphasizing its support for a new senior school in the municipality.
The motion came forward at the meeting Wednesday night (Aug. 27), moved by councillor Rory Cavanagh and seconded by mayor Kenneth Craig.
It states that council supports the Bluewater District School Board in expediting the construction of the proposed Kincardine District Senior School in a new location within the municipality, and resolves the following:
- That council direct staff to continue to advocate with the school board and the Province of Ontario regarding the building of the proposed new senior school
- That council direct staff to prioritize this development and any required applications submitted to the municipality to support the development
- That this motion be included in the “Council Priority Resolution” matrix with an expected completion date of Oct. 26, 2026
Cavanagh said the motion was brought forward to make it clear to the public, and as transparent as possible, that the municipality wants to get this project moved forward.
“The intent,” said Craig, “is the completion of the new school by the last day of our term of council.”
Councillor Bill Stewart suggested having staff look at something more aggressive, such as a lobbyist, to go after the school board and province, to get this new school built. “This is our number one issue, and it’s a major concern for the community.”
Council approved the motion.
