Nearly 6,200 people take part in Summer Bus Tour Program, weekly tours coming this fall
The Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre was a hive of activity this summer as a record 6,193 people took part in the Summer Bus Tour Program.

Due to the popularity of this program, Bruce Power has added weekly tours this fall. Site bus tours will be held at 11 a.m., Sept. 11, 18, 25 and Oct. 2. Pre-registration is encouraged at www.brucepower.com/bustours.

The program, which offers guests an introductory video and a one-hour narrated tour around Bruce Power’s 2,100-acre site, continues to be a major attraction for locals and tourists, alike, as it’s the only nuclear station in Canada to offer the public such an up-close look at its facilities.

Delivering three bus tours per day, seven days per week, during the summer months (and once daily in June), Bruce Power’s community relations team educated the public on the role nuclear plays in Ontario’s electricity supply mix, while reinforcing visitors’ support for nuclear energy as they explored the areas around Bruce A and B, Douglas Point, Hydro One’s switch yards, and Ontario Power Generation’s Nuclear Sustainability Services facility.

“Giving people a peek behind the curtain at how one-third of Ontario’s electricity is generated is always exciting for the staff at the visitors’ centre,” said Dwight Irwin, Bruce Power’s manager of community relations. “Aside from nuclear being the backbone of the province’s energy grid, many guests are surprised to learn that it is a carbon-free form of electricity and they’re very interested in our medical isotope program. Many tell us the visit makes them more comfortable with nuclear power after having the opportunity to learn more and see our site in person.”

The visitors’ centre staff is excited for the return of school groups from Grades 3-12, as well as trades programs and post-secondary institutions. Educators can request a presentation that is catered to the age and interests of the participants by calling 519-361-7777 or sending an E-mail message to BNPDVisitorCentre@brucepower.com.

Community organizations and service groups can also arrange a visit that could include a site tour, by reaching out to the visitors’ centre at the E-mail above.

The Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre is open year-round, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Learn more at www.brucepower.com/visit.
