Kincardine Legion Corner
Blair Armstrong won $1,229 in this week’s
Catch the Ace draw. He chose Envelope No. 20 which contained the King of Clubs. The Ace of Spades remains hidden and we look forward to the jackpot growing well over $20,000. A little reminder ... on-line ticket sales close Tuesday nights at midnight. We will continue to go LIVE for each week's draw, Wednesdays at 4 p.m., so watch on-line, or better yet, drop into the Legion and watch.
At the
Saturday Meat Draw, we had double double-dippers. Charlie Samms and Ross Dodman both won two prizes each. The winner of the 50/50 draw was Lynn Dodman who took home $187. Congratulations, Lynn! Kudos to whoever printed out the winner’s board last weekend, it was just lovely, with the alternating colours on each line and the super-neat printing. Well done!
As
Remembrance Day approaches, the Legion will, once again, be running our annual Poppy Campaign. Branch 183 also conducts ceremonies of Remembrance in November to honour the memory of our brave troops who have served our country so well. The two Remembrance services will be held Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m., at Tiverton Lions Memorial Park; and in Kincardine, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m., in the Legion Hall, with the wreath-laying ceremony to follow at the cenotaph.
We invite local businesses and individuals in the community to purchase and place a wreath of Remembrance at one, or both of these ceremonies. Wreaths are offered for $65 each, and all wreaths will be labelled and announced by our MC as they are presented. Reach out to our Poppy Chairperson, Sandra Benbow, at
sbenbow183@outlook.com, to ask for our easy order form, and instructions on how to E-transfer if you are interested.
The third annual
Lulu’s Band Hootenanny was a super fun night, with everyone having a great time dancing and listening to the band. Thanks to everyone who attended, and to the Lulu’s Band as well. Don’t miss this one next year!

Last Sunday was our
Branch Golf Tournament, and everyone had a great time. The winners were Dave and Brenda Cooper and Les and Carolyn Kelly. Thanks to everyone who attended and to those who came back for a nice dinner back at the Legion.

Burgers before Bingo might be done for the season, but we hope to have food available before
Thursday Night Bingo, from 5-7 p.m., and this food is open to everyone. Next Thursday, we will have Beef on a Bun on the menu.
Tomorrow (Oct. 3) is Trivia Night and Todd Thompson will be hosting the night as the guest Quiz Master. Get your team signed up! We will be offering Wings and Burgers from 5-7 p.m., after which the Trivia starts. Note: you don’t have to be playing Trivia that night to come and get some food, it is open to everyone!
We have been busy making donations over the past few months, so it seemed like time for a recap. Since June we have donated a total of $13,500. Here is the breakdown: $1,000 to Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce, $1,000 to the United Way Backpack Program, $500 to the West Coast Whitecaps hockey team, $1,000 for Esha Gill in support of her attending the HOBY World Leadership Congress, $2,000 to the PRANCE Program, $500 to Christopher's Crew for the Huron-Bruce Kidney Walk and $7,500 to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation Radiothon. We thank everyone who supports our draws and events and allows us to make these types of contributions back into the community!
Thursday morning Progressive Euchre begins Oct. 9 at 10 a.m., in the Clubroom. Everyone is welcome, you don’t need to be a Legion member to play, although we love to get new members. This is a great spot to remind everyone that it’s a great time to join the Legion, as our Early Bird rate is on now! You can join or renew on-line or in person at the Branch.
Save the date for our next
General Membership Meeting, which will be Sunday, Oct. 26. If you were not in attendance at our September Membership meeting, it was decided that we would no longer print agendas and minutes for the monthly meetings. So, moving forward, the agenda will be E-mailed to all members a few days prior to the meeting. Members can bring their tablets, or print the agenda at home, or view the document on the big screen in the hall. Our goal is to reduce costs, paper waste and also the amount of time a volunteer spends photocopying. If you are not receiving E-mails about our monthly meetings, reach out to Kim, our membership chairperson, at
05-183@legion.ca.
