Rosewood RVilla’s George Allison named finalist for Resident Champion Award
George Allison of Ripley has been named a finalist for the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) 2025 Resident Champion Award.
The resident of Rosewood RVilla Retirement Living was nominated by general manager Cathy Pennington for his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of seniors, and fostering a strong, informed retirement home community.
“It is with deep respect and admiration that we nominate George for the RHRA Recognition Award, an honour that celebrates individuals who embody the values and mission of the RHRA,” stated Pennington, in the nomination.
“During his career at the Royal Bank, George was known for his integrity, warmth, and dedication to helping people. He carried these same qualities into retirement, where he quickly became a vital part of his retirement home community. He is generous, humorous, and deeply optimistic. He believes in empowering others — especially his fellow residents — by helping them stay informed and aware of their rights so they can live with security and dignity.
“George’s advocacy is thoughtful, respectful, and grounded in compassion. His insights are always intelligent, honest, and inclusive, reflecting a deep understanding of both people and policy. He is a natural leader — quietly effective, always kind — and he has made it his mission to ensure every resident feels seen, heard, and valued.
“Beyond his leadership and advocacy, George has also helped transform the physical space around the retirement home. His love for gardening has led to beautiful enhancements in the outdoor areas, creating inviting, peaceful, and colourful spaces where residents can relax, reflect, and connect with nature.
“His legacy is one of inclusion, empowerment, and community-building — qualities that mirror the very essence of this award. His practical and respectful approach, paired with a genuine passion for improving life for others, continues to inspire everyone around him.
“We are proud to recognize George and all he has done to make his retirement home a more informed, beautiful, and supportive place to live.”
Back in September, the RHRA announced Allison and seven other retirement home residents from across Ontario, as finalists for this award.
The Resident Champion Award went to Verna Hibbert of Windermere on the Mount in London and Uma Kumariah of Scarborough Retirement Residence. The RHRA also presented Partner in Protection Awards to Ontario Health West and Ontario Health at Home Southwest.
