Off the Broom – Kincardine curling season soon under way
It is time to dust off the curling shoes and find your brush (not the one you use to clean the snow off your vehicle either) because curling season is about to get under way. Volunteers have been busy getting the ice prepared for our opening draws. There still is time to register for the first session which runs from Oct. 27 to Dec. 12. The final day to register is Friday, Oct. 24 and you can do that by going to
www.kincardinecurlingclub.ca and see “Registration.” If you are having problems or want more information, contact our registrar at
kccregistrar01@gmail.com or there will be another open house for registration in person at the club, Thursday, Oct. 23, from 7-8:30 pm.
A “Learn to Curl” clinic will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This clinic will be taught by Maurice Wilson, a Level 3 certified coach who has coached at the provincial and national levels. There will be instruction for beginners to learn the basics of the game and also for “stick curlers” for those who are no longer able to deliver in the traditional method. The cost is $40 each and includes lunch. This will be well worth your time if you are new at the game. Register in advance by going to
www.kincardinecurlingclub.ca under “Events.”
Just two weeks into the new season and we will be hosting our first bonspiel of the year. The annual “Innie versus Outtie” spiel will be held Saturday, Nov. 8. The Outties, those who live outside the town, will be trying to defend their trophy. The following week, Nov. 15, we will be holding a “Grip It and Sweep It” bonspiel. The format will be two eight-end games — just enough to get the kinks out and get ready for a year of curling. This is open to all teams — men’s, ladies or mixed. Enter either or both of these spiels by going to
www.kincardinecurlingclub.ca under “Events.”
Can’t wait to see everyone on the ice real soon!
