Purple Grove news
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Congratulations to Todd Thompson on his Movember Golf Classic and the funds raised again! Thank you to everyone who supports the families and friends in their journeys to better health.

Oct. 19-25 is Small Business Week and we appreciate all the entrepreneurs in our communities! Shop Local - it helps out our economy!

We extend our sympathies to the families of Lorrainne Smith of London and Betty Nicholson of Chatham. Both of these ladies had Ripley connections and lived in the area with their families.

We also extend get well wishes to all our family and friends in hospital.

Happy Birthday to Lillian Logtenberg who is 89 years young, and Sheridan Conley; and this week, Jeff Knapp and Diane Oczkowski of Pincher Creek, Alberta.

Couples with wedding anniversaries recently were Garry and Laura Farrell, Rob and Carolyn Farrell, Sandy and Sasha Bridge and Brian and Christine Bridge! Hope you all were able to celebrate!

Fair season is winding down - Thanksgiving weekend was the fall fairs in Erin and Rockton, and last weekend, the Walkerton Little Royal had a beautiful and busy day, Saturday. Congratulations to those agricultural societies and their directors for all the work you do!

Looking forward to seeing some of those meteor showers from the Comet Lemmon this week! Hope the skies are clear enough to see it! Have a good week, everyone!

AREA W.I. CONVENTION

Ellen Waye and Fran Farrell attended the Simcoe Women's Institute Area Convention at Tec-We-Gill W.I. Hall, Bradford, Thursday of last week. The theme was “Rural Women in Action!” The area invited W.I. members to submit photos for a photography competition with the theme topic. A local photographer offered reasons for her choice of the best photos, and tips and trips for taking great photos.

There was a report from the Simcoe County Museum on its reconstruction and addition of the display halls which has had delays. It hosts a skate trail over the museum grounds that has been very popular, especially these past two winters, and the first Heritage Car Festival (pre-1939 cars) in August this year was also well-attended! Organizers have been very pleased with these ventures while the museum has not been as accessible.

Guest speaker in the afternoon was Bonnie den Haan, chairperson of Farm and Food Care. The executive was installed by Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) president Cheryl Sullivan. Simcoe Area president is Donna Jebb, first-vice is Patricia Richards and secretary is Bonnie West.
