Bruce Power hosting community information sessions about Bruce “C” project
Bruce Power is hosting a series of community information sessions for residents to learn more, and ask questions, about its Bruce “C” project.

The company currently is undergoing a federal integrated impact assessment to build up to 4,800 megawatts of nuclear capacity at the Bruce Power site — a project referred to as Bruce “C.” The Bruce Power site already is one of the largest producers of nuclear energy in the world, providing approximately 30 per cent of Ontario’s clean electricity, and a new nuclear build on the existing site would help meet rising electricity demand, drive the economy and provide well-paying jobs in the area for decades to come.

“We’re excited about this opportunity for the Clean Energy Frontier region of Bruce, Grey and Huron counties,” said Weina Chong, Bruce Power director of regulatory affairs for the Bruce “C” project. “Our ongoing Life-Extension Program and Project 2030 are securing the future of our existing units and Bruce ‘C’ provides a long-term opportunity to continue to provide clean energy and drive the local economy.”

The proposed project could see more than 20,000 jobs created, nationally, during the design and construction phase and an estimated 12,000 full-time-equivalent jobs would be created or supported in Canada each year over the project’s lifespan.

The public is invited to attend sessions being held from 4-7 p.m. in the following locations:

  • Goderich - Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Columbus Convention Centre and Banquet Hall, 390 Parsons Court, Goderich
  • Owen Sound - Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, Shore Room, 1900 3rd Ave. E., Owen Sound
  • Walkerton - Wednesday, Nov.12, at the Best Western Plus, Grand Ball Room, 10 East Ridge Rd., Walkerton

Each event starts with a presentation, followed by the opportunity to speak with members of the team. Light refreshments and snacks will be available, and there will be a draw for an iPad.

The schedule for each event includes:

  • 4 p.m.: Doors open
  • 4:30-5 p.m.: Presentation by Bruce Power
  • 5-7 p.m.: Opportunity to chat with the Bruce “C” team and ask questions, etc.
