Kincardine Legion Corner
We begin this week’s column with some important information about the
2025 Poppy Campaign which runs Oct. 31 to Nov. 11. This campaign is a critical piece to how we help our veterans and with the current postal issues, we are somewhat concerned. We are really hoping that the public will pivot with us and make this year truly memorable!
This year, we are distributing our poppy donation envelopes via the 'blue flyer bag' during the week of Oct. 27. If you do not typically receive this flyer bag, the envelopes will also be available at the Legion Bar, Sleepers Bed Gallery and InStyle Hair Studio.
Instead of mailing your donation envelope, you can drop it off at the same retailers above OR message us on Facebook and someone will arrange for a pick-up.
All funds raised must go directly to veterans, with the exception of a small percentage. That small percentage can be donated to our local hospital toward a specific piece of equipment, which we did last year, purchasing a blanket warmer and an ECG machine for the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation. Last year, you helped raise $52,274 and we want to try to do even better this year, with your help.
Every poppy counts. Every donation honours veterans and the sacrifice they made for us.
Now on to other news! Congratulations to Janet Edwards who won $1,687 in the
Catch the Ace draw. She selected Envelope No. 34 which revealed the Queen of Clubs, so the Ace of Spades remains hidden. Next week’s jackpot is expected to reach $28,000! Get your $5 tickets on-line, at the Legion Bar, or at one of the in-person retailers. Each purchase you make has an impact on our community.
At the
Saturday Meat Draw, we had a quadruple-dipper. Wait, did I read that correctly? Yes, it seems as if Jamie White won four times, and ... you won’t believe this ... he also won the 50/50 draw, taking home $148. If you see Jamie, maybe see if you can get some tips or secrets out of him.
I know we remind you every week, but we just don’t want anyone to forget to take advantage of our
Early Bird Legion membership rates. You can renew until Nov. 30 and save - memberships are $55, with a special $50 rate for veterans. Our membership chairperson, Kim, will be at this week’s Saturday Meat Draw if you have any questions or wish to renew with her.
Here is another reminder, as we are getting closer to
Remembrance Day. The Branch 183 Ceremonies of Remembrance will be held Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. in Tiverton at Lions Memorial Park, and Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Kincardine, beginning with the service at 10 a.m. in the Legion Hall, followed by the wreath-laying at the Cenotaph.
It seems people enjoy hearing what the food will be for next week’s Bingo. So, for next week, Oct. 30, we will have Beef on a Bun back on the menu for $6. Also, in case you didn’t see it last week, plan ahead to attend the next Family Dinner, Sunday, Nov. 23, and turkey will be on the menu.
The annual
Kincardine Legion Craft Show and Bake Sale will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Legion Hall. Admission is free. Any and all donations to the Bake Sale are greatly appreciated, and can be dropped off at the hall bar Friday afternoon or Saturday morning before 9 a.m.
