South Bruce OPP remind people to "lock-it or lose it"

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP continues to receive reports of vehicle entries across the detachment area. Loose change, Canadian Tire money and compact discs (CDs) are commonly reported as items taken from unlocked vehicles. More valuable items, such as Global Positioning System (GPS) units and digital cameras, are occasionally reported as well.

In an effort to help property owners protect their items, the South Bruce OPP is recommending some tips from the OPP Crime Prevention Section and Insurance Bureau of Canada Auto Theft Protection initiative called Lock-it or lose-it:

  • Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the door and pocket the key

  • If you have a garage, use it. Lock the door and the vehicle

  • Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area

  • Never leave valuable objects in plain view. If you must leave them in the car, keep them out of sight

Theft is a crime of opportunity that you can help to control. Make your property hard to steal – lock-it or lose-it.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122.  Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
