Ripley Wolves slam defending champs, Minto 81s, by convincing 7-1 score
The last time the Ripley Wolves skated into Palmerston, the Minto 81s were crowned the Ontario Elite Hockey League champions.
Saturday night, the Wolves exorcised those demons with a convincing 7-1 win in front of goaltender Garrett Golley who weathered an early storm when the 81s fired 20 shots on him in the first period, giving the offence time to kick in.
Seven different Wolves dented the twine – Dan Nicoloff, Carter Servais, Cody Britton, Dawson Fahrer, Kaden Hoggarth, Pat Looby, and Jordan Moulton – while Golley's shut-out lasted until midway through the third period, when the game was well out of reach.
Assists went to Garrett Meurs (2), Tyson Soers, Taylor Woolcott, Gerrit Satosek, Jarred Colling, Nicoloff (2), Britton, Looby, Servais, and Fahrer.
Golley stopped 38 of 39 shots, while the Wolves scored early and often on their way to 31 shots on net, forcing Minto into a goalie swap early in the second period.
The Wolves hope for a similar result this Saturday night, Dec. 6, when Minto rolls into the Ripley Arena for a 7 p.m. puck drop. Santa will be in the building to greet families from 3-6 p.m., while the Wolves players will take part in public skating from 5:30-6:30 p.m., so bring the family and stay for what is sure to be an exciting game.
Game sponsors Dec. 6, are Hanover Volkswagen, Parrish & Heimbecker, Rosewood RVilla, and (S)he Shed.
