South Bruce OPP report stunt-driver; and hit-and-run
STUNT-DRIVING LEADS TO SEVERAL OFFENCES

(BROCKTON, ON) - Nov. 29, a member of the South Bruce OPP was conducting radar enforcement along Highway 9 in the Municipality of Brockton.

At 8:07 p.m., police observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, activated the radar unit and observed a display speed in excess of 150km/h in a posted 80km/h zone.

After the vehicle was stopped, the investigating officer spoke with the driver and detected signs of alcohol consumption. The driver refused the lawful demand to provide a breath sample and resisted arrest prior to being taken into custody. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a small quantity of suspected cocaine.

The vehicle was impounded for 14 days and the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended for 90 days.

Matthew ANDRUSKI, 44, of Walkerton was charged with:
 
  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt, HTA 172(1)
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand, CC 320.15(1)
  • Resist peace officer, CC 129(a)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, CDSA 4(1)
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available, CCA 12(1)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, LLCA 42(1)(a)

The accused is set to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton, Jan. 7, 2026, to answer to the charges.

ARREST MADE AFTER COLLISION

(BROCKTON, ON) - Nov. 27, the South Bruce OPP received the report of a fail-to-remain collision in the area of South Street and Yonge Street in Walkerton.

At 9:21 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted police after observing a pick-up truck strike a Stop sign in Walkerton before fleeing the area. A description of the vehicle was provided, and the investigating officer was able to locate a vehicle matching the description shortly thereafter.

While speaking with the driver, the officer detected signs of alcohol consumption. A lawful demand was made for the driver to provide a breath sample, which was refused. The driver was placed under arrest.

Daniel PHARANT, 33, of Walkerton was charged with:
 
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand, CC 320.15(1)
  • Fail to remain, HTA 200(1)
  • Fail to report accident, HTA 199(1)

The accused is set to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton, Dec. 17, to answer to the charges. The vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.
