Kincardine Legion Corner
As we announced last week, we are busy preparing for the launch of our new partnership with the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation - the Kin Cares 50/50 draw. We hope to have everything ready in the coming weeks. Our new logo is now set, and you can view it on the Kin Cares 50/50 Facebook page. Be sure to follow that page if you are not already. The monthly draws will be at the end of each month, with early bird draws of cash or prizes happening throughout the month. There will be different price points for different numbers of entries that you can purchase. You will be able to purchase on-line or in-person using handheld units we will have. What is great about these handheld units is that we can walk around at various events and offer tickets. Another advantage to this type of draw is that you can set up recurring buys that will automatically purchase your tickets at the beginning of each month, so you never miss an early bird. This will ensure your tickets come to you if you are away on vacation as well!

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we had one double-dipper, and it was Eleanor Roppel. I joked last week that Elmer wasn’t at all jealous of Charlie’s 50/50 win last week. Let’s hope Charlie feels the same because good karma prevailed and Elmer Lamont took home the cash prize of $196 in the 50/50 draw.

We are looking forward to our New Member Meet and Greet, Saturday, Feb. 21, from 1-2:30 p.m. We have had a good influx of new members taking advantage of the free membership offer for 2026 as the Legion celebrates 100 years of service. So, if you are a new member, please plan to drop in, ask some questions, meet our executive, take a tour of our amazing building and even check out some volunteer opportunities, if you are interested.
Not signed up as a member yet? You can do it easily on-line at legion.ca/join-us. We will have membership forms available to fill out at the Meet and Greet as well. Our usual Saturday Meat Draw will take place following the Meet and Greet.

We want to remind our new members, as well as our current members, about some of the perks of being a Legion member. One great thing is something that is aptly called ‘MemberPerks.’ Legion members get access to this website which has offers and deals on all sorts of things, from travel to TVs, from food to fashion, from health to home, and much more. When you join as a member you, receive an E-mail about this perk so watch for that and get signed up, it’s free for members. We recently put a short video showing the MemberPerks website on our Legion Facebook page, so if you want to see what it’s all about, take three minutes and watch the video.

This week, Branch 183 was proud to support the Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS) Model UN Team with a $1,500 donation to assist team in attending Model UN events, both in and out of Bluewater. We wish the team good luck!

Bingo, bingo, bingo! We remind newer players that Bingo card sales start at 5:45 p.m., and the games start promptly at 6:45 p.m. Be sure to arrive before 6:45 p.m. to get your cards purchased, since they are put away when the games start. Remember, we are still having weekly $1,000 jackpots, and you can get some food before you play. Food starts at 5 p.m. and next week’s menu, Feb. 12, will be pulled pork and coleslaw.

This Saturday night at the Legion, the Kincardine and District Lions Club is presenting "Grace 2," a special concert in support of the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation. There are still some tickets left for this "Tragically Hip Tribute Band," so check out the Lions Facebook page for the Eventbrite link.

While we are talking about tickets ... do you have yours for our two big, events? Saturday, March 14, we are having a St. Paddy’s Day Celebration with a Dinner and Dance at the Legion. Tickets are only $20 each, which includes the dancing to Left Turn Clyde. The dinner menu will be a choice of Irish stew or Shepherd’s pie with a dessert of Bailey’s cheesecake or Guinness chocolate cake. The Mudmen will be at Branch 183, Saturday, April 25. Tickets for this event are on sale at the Legion Bar, and are $35 each.

Other Coming Events:

  • Sunday, Feb. 22 - Family Dinner from 5-6:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Feb. 27 - Trivia Night at 7 p.m.
