​Kincardine Bulldogs lead Walkerton, 2-1, in opening playoff series

The Kincardine Bulldogs have a 2-1 lead over the Walkerton Capitals, after a three-game weekend, in their opening playoff series in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Friday night, the 'Dogs hosted the Capitals at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine and played to a 2-1 overtime win.

After a scoreless first period, Zasha Ortman opened the scoring for Kincardine midway through the second, assisted by Nathan Lavender and Cameron Robillard.

Walkerton tied it up in the third, forcing the game into overtime.

Early in the overtime period, Lavender scored from Cameron Stutzman and Leland Weber, to give the 'Dogs the 2-1 win.

Kincardine goalie Rowen Cherrett made 30 saves on 31 shots.

Saturday night in Walkerton, the Bulldogs hammered the Capitals, 6-3

Cole Lewis led the scoring with four goals, while Owen Shore and Tyler Kelly added singles.

Assists went to Caeleb Bowler (2), Jared Houghton (2), Ty McQuillin, Austin Griffin, Lewis, Ortman and Shore.

There was no scoring in the third period, but a whole lot of fighting, as major penalties were handed out to both teams, including game misconducts.

Cherrett made zero saves on three shots.

Sunday afternoon, the Capitals returned to the Davidson Centre in Kincardine and defeated the Bulldogs, 4-1, in a game that was less than impressive, and again, featured more fighting than playing.

Tyler Wagler scored Kincardine's lone goal in the third period, assisted by Ortman.

Cherrett made 38 saves on 42 shots.

The Bulldogs take on Walkerton in Game 4, Thursday, Feb. 26, at 8:30 p.m. in Walkerton. Game 5 is back in Kincardine at the Davidson Centre, Friday, Feb. 27, at 8:30 p.m.

If necessary, Game 6 would run Saturday, Feb. 28, in Walkerton at 3:30 p.m.; and Game 7 would be back in Kincardine, Tuesday, March 3, at 8 p.m.
