Kincardine Legion Corner

Kincardine Legion Corner
The St. Paddy’s Day Dinner and Dance, Saturday, was packed, and it was a fun night of food and dancing to the music of Left Turn Clyde. While there was a sea of green, with many amazing outfits, in my opinion, one of the best was donned by our own Veteran Services Officer, Dave Carson (right). The 50/50 Draw winnings of $450, were shared by Janice Travers, Sherri Hilton and Rodney Hilton (above). A big thanks to Jon, Lisa, and the whole volunteer team that made the delicious Irish-themed food and desserts and kept us hydrated at the bar.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we had eight distinct winners once again, with no double-dippers at all. Larry Bonnett won the 50/50 draw and took home $171. Remember to mark May 9 on your calendar, as that is the next Mega Meat Draw.

For the new Kin Cares 50/50, we are still working through the myriad of steps needed to begin draws in April. We have held meetings, worked on-line, sent a ton of E-mails, and are making good progress. The on-line website for ticket sales is coming along and we will let everyone know when it goes live. We hope to have our handheld units in our hands soon as well.

New members, don’t forget to check the MemberPerks website and explore all the offers and deals that are available to Legion members. As we approach tax season, we wanted to point out that there is a MemberPerks deal to get 25 per cent off UFile, the on-line tax software. Log-in to your account to find this deal. If you haven’t set up your account yet, we have a video on our Facebook page showing some of the benefits of MemberPerks.

Looking ahead in the coming weeks, the Walkie Talkies of 183 have some great guest speakers lined up. Tomorrow (March 20), Angela Yenssen, a Grey Bruce Community Legal Clinic lawyer, will be talking about elder law wills and aging in place. March 27, Christine Roberts of Huron Bruce Nature will be talking about the City Nature Challenge. April 10, Meredith Watson of the Lake Huron Coastal Centre will be speaking about plastic pollution in the lake, and April 24, Sandra Hong of the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce is the speaker. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. The Walkie Talkies meet every Friday, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., in the Legion Hall. Everyone is welcome, so drop in and learn!

This Sunday is a busy one, as we have our General Membership Meeting at 2 p.m. and then, at 5 p.m., is the Family Dinner, with smoked pork chops and scalloped potatoes on the menu. You don’t need to be a member to go to the family dinner, and prices are as follows: adults, $22; seniors (65-plus), $20; children (age six to 12), $15; children (age five and under), Free; and a family rate (two adults and two children), $65.

Saturday, April 25, The Mudmen will be back at Branch 183. Tickets for this event are on sale at the Legion Bar, and are $35 each.

Thursday Night Bingo food for March 26, is Turkey Pot Pie.

The Kincardine Refugee Sponsorship Committee is holding a Spring Fling Adult Dance Party at the Legion, Saturday, April 18, from 7-11 p.m., with a cash bar and some light snacks. Check out the post on the committee's Facebook page for more details, but you can buy tickets for $35 each at the Legion Bar, Penetangear, or from any committee member.
