Finals between Ripley Wolves and Minto 81s now tied, 2-2
After a tough loss on home ice, Friday night, Ripley Wolves captain Garrett Meurs netted the overtime winner in Game 4 on the road to knot the North Conference final at two games apiece.
Friday night, in front of a capacity crowd at the Ripley Arena, Minto's special teams were the star of the show, piling up three powerplay goals and a shorthanded game-winner on their way to a 6-2 win.
Ethan Skinner scored both Ripley goals, assisted by Kaden Hoggarth and Meurs.
Goalie Jason Hamilton stopped 24 of 29 shots, while Minto's sixth goal was scored into an empty net.
In Game 4, Saturday in Listowel, the Wolves had 1-0 and 2-1 leads, but needed overtime to tie up the series.
Goal-scorers were Keaton McLaughlin, Cody Britton, and Meurs in overtime. Assists went to Matthew Murray, Hoggarth, Skinner, and Britton.
Hamilton held the fort as Minto out-shot Ripley by a 40-30 count.
Ripley will look to be the first team to win on home ice in this series in Game 5, Friday night, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. Game 6 goes Saturday in Palmerston at 4 p.m. If necessary, Game 7 will be Tuesday night, April 7, in Ripley at 8:30 p.m.
In the South Conference, Seaforth won Game 2 against Elora in triple overtime to tie that series at 1-1. The winner of the South will face either Ripley or Minto for the Ontario Elite Hockey League championship.
