Kincardine Legion Corner
We are live! April 1, the new Kin Cares 50/50 Draw launched, and it was a wonderful start with amazing community support. On just the first day, the jackpot was already at about $3,000. Wow! The partners in this new draw, the Kincardine Legion and the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, invite everyone to attend our first Early Bird Draw of this month. We will kick off our partnership live in the Legion clubroom at 4 p.m., Friday, April 10. Everyone is welcome to drop in and help us toast our launch. The first Early Bird is a $500 cash prize, and we hope to have some surprise guests. Plan to be there!
Here are a few helpful points about ticket purchases for the Kin Cares 50/50 Draw, related to some questions we received from supporters. First off, you have to be in Ontario to purchase tickets. We have some handheld devices, one at the Legion Bar and one at the Kincardine Hospital, likely in the gift shop. So when you use those, of course you are in Ontario, and by the way, these handhelds take debit and credit cards. But if you are purchasing your tickets on-line at kincares5050.ca, you have to allow the site to see your location. A pop-up typically comes up and you choose "Allow" and then the site knows you are in Ontario. If you get an error here, please ask us, or someone you know for some help; there are also very specific help steps for this on the site, in the frequently-asked questions section. If you don’t see your E-mail with your tickets, check your junk or spam folder as a first step. Lastly, remember you can set up a recurring payment, so that it will automatically buy and send you your tickets on the first of the month, without you having to do the purchase each time. Reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, there were no double-dippers, but I did see some Allens on the board again, along with a few Chases. Charlie Samms won the 50/50 draw, and took home $123.50. Congratulations to all the winners. If you have never dropped by the branch on a Saturday afternoon to attend a meat draw, you really should try it. You don’t need to be a Legion member — everyone is welcome.

Thursday, April 9, is Vimy Ridge Day. Branch 183 will be conducting a Vimy Ridge Day Flag-Raising Commemoration at the Kincardine Cemetery, beginning at 9 a.m. The ceremony will begin with the Colour Party marching on and installing the flags at the Legion plots. As the flags are raised, "O Canada" will be played. With the flags flying, a few words of reflection will be offered by the Legion Padre. "The Last Post" will then sound, and the flags will be lowered to half-mast in solemn commemoration of Vimy Ridge Day. The ceremony will conclude with the Colour Party marching off. Everyone is welcome to attend.

A reminder that Branch 183 elections are approaching. Elections will be held during the General Membership Meeting, Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m. To vote, your membership must be paid and up-to-date. You can find the list of members who have put their names forward for the branch executive on the board in the front hall. If you are interested in running for a position, you are welcome to add your name to the board.

We have a lot of things going on this month.

Next week on Bingo Night, the food will be a Spaghetti Bake. Please remember that there are no outside drinks permitted at Bingo, or at any of our licensed events.

Be sure to drop by the Legion Bar to get your tickets to The Mudmen at the Legion, Saturday, April 25. Tickets are just $35 each.

The best way to see everything happening each month is to have a look at our calendars. The April calendar is now posted on our Facebook page (always pinned at the top) and it’s on the Legion website at www.kincardinelegion.com. If you are a Legion member, then you will also get the calendar E-mailed directly to your inbox by Kim, our membership chairperson. If you are not getting those, please let us know. With a glance at the monthly calendar, you can check out the dates and times for the Jam Sessions, Bingos (and the food offerings), Walkie Talkies, Line Dancing, Darts, Fiddlers, draws and all of our major events.

One final note, this month’s Family Dinner is April 26, and will be a roast beef dinner.
