Bruce and Grey counties appoint public board of health members
Bruce and Grey counties appointed members of council to the board of health for the remainder of the council term, at their recent meetings.

Bruce County has appointed Rod Anderson, Kenneth Craig and Steve Hammell, while Grey County has appointed Shirley Keaveney, Dane Nielsen, Barbara Dobreen, and Scott Greig.

The terms of the previous board members ended in February, with the counties and the Province of Ontario moving together into a renewal phase, beginning with a jointly-developed skills-based matrix.
The matrix, unanimously supported by both councils, assesses skills relevant to governing the board of health.

There’s no expectation for each member to have all skills, rather all members together will collectively share them. Additional training will help to continually build skills for good governance, strong oversight, and effective community relationships.

“We remain committed to working with our partners at Grey County and the Ontario Ministry of Health,” said Bruce County warden Luke Charbonneau. “Our municipal representatives appointed today (April 23), using the skills-based matrix, is a positive step in the renewal and strengthening of our local board of health.”

“These appointments will provide strong and effective leadership for public health in Grey and Bruce," said Grey County warden Andrea Matrosovs. "We appreciate the commitment of our council members, both past and new, who choose to serve on the board of health.”

The county appointees follow Ontario’s appointment of two members, David Nusko and Chad Richards, March 12.

Grey and Bruce counties continue to work closely with the province, the special advisors to the Ontario chief medical officer of health, and the staff at Grey Bruce Public Health.

The newly-established board of health is set to hold its first meeting later this spring.
