Kinetic Knights compete at Ontario Championships in Niagara Falls
The Kinetic Knights Robotics Team (FRC Team 781) of Kincardine travelled to Niagara Falls last weekend (April 16-19) for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Ontario Championships.
Through Friday and Saturday, the team’s robot competed in qualifying matches on the Technology Field, squaring off against 48 other teams. Each match featured three robots per side in the “Rebuilt” challenge which involved picking up fuel (yellow balls) and shooting them into a central hub. Another 49 teams were competing on the adjacent Science Field.
After qualifying matches, the team had five wins and seven losses and was sitting in 28th place.
Sunday morning brought alliance selection, and Team 781 was not chosen to compete in the elimination rounds.
This ends the competition season for the Kinetic Knights who now switch into outreach mode. The team will be out and about in its green T-shirts, attending various events in the Kincardine area, conducting robot demonstrations, and seeking to recruit new members and mentors to the team.
The Kinetic Knights Robotics Team is a community youth robotics organization, open to young people, ages 13-19, in Kincardine. Currently, there are about 15 members and six mentors who focus on various aspects of team-building, as well as constructing a robot to enter in FIRST competitions.
