Purple Grove news
Happy Mother's Day to all our mothers, grandmothers and many who are a mother to us, on that chilly weekend! We're sure happy for the sunshine and the little bit of rain on Saturday too. We're sure thinking of our family and friends in the west who are on Wildfire Watch and some places around here are on a Burn Ban already.
It's been a little quieter in the Grove, but we still want to wish belated anniversary greetings to Brock and Jane Hasty of Port Albert and to Jim and Bonnie Maschke who celebrated their 30th anniversary, May 4.
Happy Birthday to Steve Hallam and Chris Farrell, May 10.
There's no shortage of theatre presentations lately. Many in the area enjoyed "The Wyrd Sisters" by the Kincardine Theatre Guild, and 15 members and friends of the Purple Grove Women's Institute attended "The Calendar Girls," Friday evening in Chesley! A great story created for film in 2003, and theatre about a British W.I. branch from Yorkshire that developed a calendar in support of a member's husband who, in 1998, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The calendar is a success and in addition to raising funds for the hospital, it continues to raise funds for Blood Cancer United Kingdom.
Several families gathered over the Mother's Day weekend to celebrate this special time together!
Thanks to the Ripley-Huron Legion for burgers on Friday night and wings on Saturday evening!
And if you think it's hot enough for ice cream, the Holyrood Store staff is ready to serve too!
Many from the area attended the memorial service for Jim McFarland, Friday, and we extend our sympathy to the family of Alex Stewart and others in the community who are grieving at this time.
Get well wishes to all those in hospital and recovering from surgery and treatments. Looking forward to seeing you again soon!
Congratulations to the Pine River Watershed Initiative Network (PRWIN) and its community tree-planting last Saturday with more than 70 volunteers! Thanks for all the leadership and sponsorship that goes into all the planning for those days!
Thanks to the folks who were at the Blood Donor Clinic in Lucknow, Friday. We appreciate your dedication.
And to Bruce County for hosting the Household Hazardous Waste Day in Kincardine, Saturday.
