Saturday, June 13, the BUILDKD-plus committee will officially launch its community fund-raising campaign with "Back to KD," an open house-style event running from 1-4 p.m. at Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS).
The afternoon will celebrate the history of KDSS while looking ahead to the future of education in Kincardine and the surrounding area.
Community members, alumni, former staff, students, and families are invited to walk through the school, reconnect with old classmates and teachers, and explore a “KDSS Through the Decades” timeline installation that will stretch throughout the building. The event is designed to bring generations of Knights together in the current KDSS building while building excitement for the new school and the enhanced opportunities it can provide.
The timeline project will feature decade-themed displays created by the Grades 7-8 students, highlighting world events, school memories, pop culture, fashion, music, sports, and life in Kincardine from the 1950s to today.
Vintage yearbooks, historical photos and memorabilia will also be featured, offering visitors a chance to reflect on the people, moments, teams, performances, classrooms, and traditions that have helped shape KDSS since 1951.
Live music performances by students from Jocelyn Leidy’s School of Music will take place in the cafeteria from 1-3 p.m., leading into official remarks and the unveiling of the campaign fund-raising thermometer at 3 p.m.
Attendees can also enjoy a barbecue, by donation, hosted by the Kincardine Lions Club, throughout the afternoon.
The BUILDKD-plus Campaign was created to support enhancements to the new KDSS building beyond the provincially-funded base construction. The campaign aims to help create exceptional learning and activity spaces connected to athletics, skilled trades, arts and performance, technology, student collaboration, and wellness. Your support in this endeavor will help continue the high achievement of KDSS students while building a community hub for generations to come.
"Back to KD" is about celebrating where KDSS has been, reconnecting with the people and memories that shaped it, and building excitement for what comes next. It is also an invitation for the community to be part of building a stronger future for students, families, and generations of Knights to come.
