Purple Grove news

The sun is shining and our farmers are busy everywhere getting seed in the ground! It's been a very nice couple of weekends for visiting and catching up with family too.

Welcome to the community to Avery MacDonald, born April 14, another son for James and Anita and a brother for Jase and Kayce!

Happy Belated Birthdays again to Betty Henderson, Gary Dam, Callen Hill, Marsha Farrell, Barb de Boer, Karen Reutz, Stacy Thompson and Debbie Armstrong, and Happy Wedding Anniversary to Jim and Judy de Boer.

Many of the community were saddened to learn of the passing of Ed MacGillivray of Ripley. We extend our sympathy to Janice, Kelly and David, Kristy and Matthew, his brother Rick and step-brothers Bob and Steve, grandkids, in-laws and the extended family too. Ed was another of those fellows ready to help family and neighbours, and with a smile and greeting for everyone.

We also extend our sympathies to the families of Norie Dickson, David Cuyler, Marian Underwood and Gordon Campbell and others of our community who are grieving the loss of loved ones.

The Ripley-Huron Community School track and field meet was held Monday, May 25, and it was a perfect day! Congratulations to all those athletes and good luck at the regional for those of you who qualified.

And congratulations to the Ripley Ravens and their "Aladdin Kids" production with Mackenzie Burgess as director. What a great show and so nice to see the artistic talent at the school!

Congratulations to the planning committees for organizing "Prom." It was lovely to see those students all dressed up and out for the evening!

It was also fun to take in the Walkerton District Community School theatre production of "Alice@Wonderland." There is a lot of talent out there and thanks so much to the staff for coaching these students - great memories to have and share!

Many family and friends gathered at the Purple Grove Community Centre, Saturday, May 30, to celebrate the lives of Roy and Maureen Collins and the legacy they have left with us. It was a beautiful day to renew friendships and share memories with the family.

Thanks to the Bervie United Church for their Burgers, Salads and Desserts, Friday for lunch. It was certainly wonderful to visit with those in attendance.

There was to be the Northern Lights and an asteroid meteor shower, Sunday night, June 7. Wonder if we'll catch any of it? Have a great week, everyone!

PURPLE GROVE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

The Purple Grove Women's Institute met at the community centre, Wednesday evening, with Bonnie Boyle as hostess. President Bren de Leeuw welcomed nine members and one guest, with Roll Call: Name your favourite pet.

The speaker was Robyn Bridge, talking about her work as a registered veterinary technician at the three clinics where she works. They look after large and small animals and have arrangements with five veterinary clinics for 24-hour care. Robyn has always had pets and animals in her life and knew she would have a career in veterinary science.

She also told us about the Farley Foundation and its purpose to help look after animals needing care when their owners need support. It was easy to see that Robyn's love for animals and their care certainly has her in the career that will always have clients!

Lunch was provided by Wilma Sutton and Christine Bridge and we enjoyed a brief social time.

Minutes of the last meetings and road trips were reviewed and accepted. Diane Clifford and Bonnie Boyle moved that we purchase a three-flag pedestal set of Canada, Ontario and W.I. flags that Grey-Bruce Area has obtained. Thanks were extended to all who helped with hosting the District Annual. It was a grand day!

One of our members will be attending the Ripley-Huron Community School graduation to present the Music Award, June 24. The Tweedsmuir project timeline was discussed and Marilyn Reid will set up a date to get started soon.

Our program planning meeting is June 29, and a summer excursion is in the works for July 30. We're also looking forward to attending the International Plowing Match in September to help at the Bruce W.I. booth.

Thanks were extended to all for helping with the meeting and we look forward to a busy summer!
