The volunteers, who have restored the beautiful gardens along the Kincardine boardwalk, enjoyed a meet-and-greet, Wednesday morning, at the boardwalk.
Linda Stanley, boardwalk gardens co-ordinator, said the group had a late start due to the re-figuring of the walkway, but the volunteers have worked hard to restore beauty to this focal point in the Town of Kincardine, part of the Municipality of Kincardine.
"We are fortunate to have acquired some enthusiastic new gardeners, as well as the many who have dedicated their time and efforts over the past years," she said, "and we thank the municipal crew for all its assistance in responding to our concerns in a timely fashion.
"Visitors and residents continue to enjoy this boardwalk."
The boardwalk remains under construction, south of Kincardine Harbour. Work began in November, and continued through the spring, with some delays due to the extended winter and unusually wet conditions, states Mike Di Giovanni, manager of parks and facilities, in an update on-line.
Significant progress has been made, and portions of the new boardwalk were accessible to the public over the May long weekend and during the week of Canada Day celebrations.
The first two concrete entranceways have been poured, the new lookout structure has been built, and railings will be installed once materials arrive. The new conduit for future boardwalk lighting has also been installed, with light standards expected later this summer.
The new modular wood boardwalk sections are now installed at the beach entry points. Additional sections are expected to be installed quickly, as many components were built off-site during the winter and are ready for placement.
