OPP sign 30Forward pledge to advance women in policing

(ORILLIA, ON) - The OPP is proud to officially join the 30Forward initiative, which aims to increase the representation of women in policing.

Inspired by the 30x30 initiative, 30Forward is a Canadian movement dedicated to recruiting, retaining and advancing women in policing. By signing the pledge, the OPP is committing to working toward women representing 30 per cent of its uniform officers.

"The OPP is pleased to partner with 30Forward and renew our commitment to creating opportunities for women in policing," said commissioner Thomas Carrique. "Every woman who joins policing helps build a future where the next generation sees no limits on who can serve."

"Women belong in policing because our voice, our perspective and our leadership make the profession stronger," said deputy commissioner Kari Dart. "30Forward provides the OPP the tools and network to strengthen opportunities for women within the organization."

"Joining 30Forward is a commitment to build a police service where every woman who chooses the profession can see a future for herself, a future with opportunity, support, and a clear path forward," said deputy commissioner Karen Meyer.

In 2024, about 1,300 women were serving in uniform roles within the OPP, which is approximately 21.5 per cent of uniform members.

In addition to enhancing recruitment strategies for women, the OPP is committed to identifying and removing barriers that may inhibit increasing representation across all ranks, including leadership roles.

The OPP has long held the view that when we reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, we are in a better position to respond to their safety needs and concerns. Signing onto the 30Forward initiative is a step closer to achieving this goal.
