The Kincardine Legion welcomed the community, local veterans and dignitaries to mark the official 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Friday, July 17. A highlight of the day was the formal dedication of the new Remembrance Crosswalk at Lambton Street and Huron Terrace — a permanent "Lest We Forget" landmark created in partnership with the Municipality of Kincardine. Thanks to the municipality for funding and supporting this meaningful project. Sincere appreciation to the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce which presented a commemorative certificate honouring the branch's contributions to Canadian veterans, their families and the local community.

Thank you, as well, to Legion president Teri Leslie, sergeant-at-arms Kirk Rutledge, the Colour Party, chaplain Rev. Eric Williams, piper Ben Bilyard, and the youth from the Kincardine Air Cadet Squadron, for helping lead such a moving ceremony. Most importantly, thank you to all the volunteers who served at the Veterans Barbecue lunch and public open house, "Eton Avenue" for the entertainment, and to everyone who joined in the celebration — your support ensures that the Legion will continue to honour and remember our veterans every single day!
Congratulations to Jamie White, one of the recent Kin Cares 50/50 Early Bird draw winners! He is a cornerstone of Branch 183 and recently picked up his $250 winnings. A huge thank you to Jamie and everyone who has purchased tickets — your support directly benefits veteran services and the Kincardine Hospital expansion! Don't forget, tickets for the main July 50/50 jackpot (currently approaching $20,000!) are available until Friday, July 31, at 11:59 p.m., on-line at www.kincares5050.ca, or in person at the Kincardine Legion and the Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop. The grand prize winner will be announced Tuesday, Aug. 4.
At the Saturday Meat Draw, we had a lucky triple-dipper! Joanne Hervieux won three prizes that afternoon. The 50/50 draw was won by Jamie White who took home the $157 cash prize. Jamie, maybe it's time to let someone else win!
At the recent Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Outdoor Championships (National Qualifier), athletes representing Kincardine delivered an outstanding performance at track and field. Leading the way in the Youth U18 division, Adalee Turland took home top honours with first-place finishes in both the girls shot put (setting a new meet record with a stellar throw of 15.29 metres!) and the girls discus throw (39.14 metres), alongside a strong fourth-place finish in the girls hammer throw (50 metres). In the Midget U16 division, Owen Neitzel had an equally impressive showing, earning a gold medal in the boys discus throw (46.05 metres) and capturing silver in the boys javelin throw (44.63 metres). Together, these dedicated Kincardine throwers brought home three first-place titles, a silver medal, and a provincial meet record! We wish Adalee all the best as she heads out to Regina, Saskatchewan, in August to compete at the 2026 Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships!

District Golf was held in Clinton, Sunday, July 12, and Branch 183 had seven teams playing. We had two teams qualify for the provincial tournament in September. Brenda Cooper and Carolyn Kelly won the ladies division, and Keith and Jake Colley qualified in the regular division. It was a great day, and on behalf of our sports chairperson Cathy Alcombrack and the rest of the executive, thank you to all the golfers that represented Branch 183. Good luck in September!

Music Bingo is TOMORROW NIGHT, Friday, July 24, at 7 p.m. The playlists are set, the cards are hot off the press, and we can’t wait to see everyone! Based on your feedback, we're thrilled to share that our kitchen will be serving up Wings and Fries from 6-8 p.m. Bring your singing voice, your lucky dauber, and a big appetite for a fantastic evening at the branch. A massive shout-out to the amazing volunteers who stepped up to make food service possible! We’re always eager to welcome new faces to our volunteer team in whatever role fits your schedule.
