Jadwiga “Viga” Hetman of Kincardine, died suddenly July 19, 2026, in a car accident on her way home from the airport, following a trip to Poland where memories were cherished, laughter was shared, and love was spread among immediate and distant relatives. She was driving home in the name of love and will be forever lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Beloved wife of Kazimierz “Casey” Hetman, for almost 60 years. Their 60th wedding anniversary would have been Nov. 14.
She was a beautiful mother of four, Casey Hetman Jr., Steven Hetman, and Lorrie Joy who survive her, along with her daughter, Lisa Hetman, who predeceased her many years ago; and cherished grandmother of Kylie Joy, Hunter Rhodes-Hetman, Kaitlyn Joy, Benjamin Hetman, and Noah Hetman. Also survived by her sister, Wanda King.
Jadwiga is reunited in heaven with her daughter, Lisa; her mother and father; and many other beloved friends and family who went before her.
Born Sept. 4, 1948, in Melton Mowbray, England, at a Polish re-settlement camp, Jadwiga was just a young girl when she left England for Canada with her mother and sister, aboard the Queen Mary, knowing only Polish. She built her life here, devoted to her family. She had a light, radiant essence and could always laugh at herself.
She created a warm and welcoming home wherever she went, and was known for her extraordinary baking. Her famous Greek honey cookies, crepes, Polish meats, perogies, cabbage rolls, and chicken soup filled her kitchen and her family's hearts in equal measure — to eat at her table was a privilege.
She loved tending to her garden and caring for her home, and cherished the time she spent with her dear friends.
Above all, Jadwiga was the keeper of the family's stories; she carried them all and loved nothing more than sharing them. She was a selfless woman who always put others first, and her laughter and warmth made everyone around her feel like the sun was shining.
To know Jadwiga was to be loved by her, and to be loved by her was a gift.
A visitation was held Friday, July 31, 2026, at Holy Cross Parish, Georgetown, followed by her funeral mass.
Afterwards, family and friends gathered to share memories of Jadwiga and celebrate her beautiful life.
