Rodney Emil Nashiem of Kincardine, known to most as Rod, died peacefully, with his family by his side, Aug. 6, 2026, at Huron Shores Hospice, at the age of 62.
Survived by his wife of 39 years, Heather; and his children, Taylor (Meg), Caelyn (Thomas), and Mackenzie.
Also survived by his siblings, Shelley O’Hare (Pete), Darla Nashiem and Corey Nashiem (Sandi); his mother-in-law, Gill Pittman; his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Michelle and Don Ravndahl, Grant and Joyce Pittman, Paul Pittman and Shannon Wagner; brother-in-law, Rick; his close friends, Sharon and Mike Moore, Sheryl and Jeff Elliott; and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, James and Donna Nashiem; his brother, Gerald Nashiem; his father-in-law, Lyle Pittman; and his sister-in-law, Adelle Palmer.
Rod grew up in Riverhurst, Saskatchewan, where he worked on the family farm for most of his childhood. He went on to graduate high school and pursue his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Saskatchewan.
He met the love of his life, Heather, in 1982, and they have been inseparable ever since. They were married Sept. 26, 1987.
In 1994, they welcomed their first daughter, Taylor, with their second daughter, Caelyn, arriving in 1995. Just as he finalized his PhD thesis in 1998, their third daughter, Mackenzie, was born.
After acquiring his PhD, Rod went on to have a very successful career. He worked for SaskPower, and other organizations across Saskatchewan, eventually landing in Kincardine, Ontario, to work as the chemistry division manager at Bruce Power. This move later led to the opportunity for him to work for WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators) where he got to live in Atlanta, Georgia, and Tokyo, Japan. While working with WANO, he was able to contribute to improvements in nuclear power across the globe. His many contributions and strong leadership impacted his teams and colleagues profoundly.
Rod also had many hobbies he enjoyed; teaching himself to play guitar, faithfully playing each morning on a guitar from his extensive collection. He had a deep love for music, and loved live music and festivals. He attended many concerts, and loved to find a small brewery with live music on a sunny afternoon. He was an excellent brewmaster, brewing his own beer for several years for his friends and family to enjoy. In the more recent past, he discovered a passion for roasting his own coffee beans and meticulously mapping flavour profiles. He loved an experiment and making things into his own.
He was a self-proclaimed “bird nerd” and loved watching the birds on the feeder from the deck. Rod loved travelling with his wife, his daughters and his friends and made many lasting memories with those he loved all over the world.
Rod was known for his tenacious work ethic, his amazing sense of humour, his grit, his passion, and the love he had for his wife and his girls. He was the most amazing husband, dad, friend and mentor, and he will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be held Aug. 10, 2026, at 3 p.m., at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, with refreshments to follow.

Rod’s passion, determination, humour and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
