Kincardine Hospital capital campaign reaches $15.1-million

The following is a message from Graham Mahood and Kathryn Freimanis, co-chairpersons of the Kincardine Hospital capital campaign.

The Kincardine Hospital redevelopment and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine project reached an exciting milestone this month.

With extraordinary support from donors across the region, the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has now raised $15.1-million of the $18-million local share – leaving $2.9-million remaining to raise as we work together to bring modern, expanded care close to home.

July 31, the community delivered one of the most remarkable fund-raising moments in foundation history, raising more than $305,000 in a single night during Giving Cruise Day. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the tent or donated on-line, and a special shout-out to our matching donors — Wayne and Janet Palmateer, Dotty McClelland, and a last-minute boost from John and Diane Satosek — whose generosity helped turn one evening into a truly transformational moment for the campaign.

We’re less than 60 days away from the inaugural Lighthouse-to-Lighthouse Half Marathon and 5K. Fund-raising is officially under way, and we encourage everyone to sponsor your favourite runner(s) or team(s). The goal is to raise $100,000 toward the hospital expansion and MRI project while cheering on athletes from near and far who are championing health and wellness through this exciting new event. Visit raceroster.com/events/2026/116546/lighthouse-to-lighthouse-half-marathon-and-5k and search to find participants and teams to support.

South Bruce Grey Health Centre chief executive officer Nancy Shaw, along with representatives from the foundation, recently attended council meetings in both Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss to share an update on the redevelopment project and the local share fund-raising. Most exciting was a timeline showing construction mobilization beginning in May, 2027, — a major milestone that brings this project closer than ever to becoming a reality. Kin Cares 50/50 continues to break jackpot records month-after-month. The August draw is already climbing, and tickets are available at kincares5050.ca, the Kincardine Legion, the Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, and from our ticket squad at events around town. With Lotto 649, you have a one-in-13.9-million chance of winning the jackpot. At Kin Cares 50/50, it’s one-in-1,000! And all the proceeds do good things for the community.

The foundation will be on-site at the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo, Sept. 22–26, hosted near Walkerton. Visit our booth to learn more about Bruce County’s first MRI, and celebrate this once-in-a-generation investment in local health care.

Follow the foundation on Facebook for campaign updates, event news, and progress toward our final $2.9-million. To learn more or make a donation, visit kincardinefoundation.ca.
