Kincardine FLL team to compete at Ontario Innovation Celebration in Toronto

FIRST Lego League (FLL) Team 4137, the Clean-up Crew, of Kincardine won the Global Innovation Award at the Western Ontario provincial championships held at the University of Waterloo, Jan. 28, and is now headed for the Ontario Innovation Celebration in Toronto this Saturday (Feb. 27).

Team members Layne Rothmaier, Carter Frook, William Middelkamp, Spencer Adams and Nathan Williams had a great time at the competition. They competed in a robot design review and game where the robot they had built, designed and programmed had to complete missions.

Another part of the competition was the Core Values teamwork challenge, where the Clean-up Crew had to complete a difficult task as a team in a short period of time.

The third part of the contest was the project competition, where the team had to present its recycling project idea.

Team 4137 did well in the robot competition, design review and core values teamwork session, but was delighted when it was awarded a Global Innovation Award for the recycling project, meaning the team placed in the top seven out of 39 teams at the competition and in the top 18 teams in Ontario.

The Clean-up Crew has been invited to the compete in the Ontario Innovation Celebration in Toronto, Feb. 27, and will be taking part in a "Dragon's Den"-style pitch, and then taking seminars on how to start its own company.

As part of this Saturday's challenge, the team is collecting survey results until Thursday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. (EST).
