Hans Lochbihler of Kincardine died peacefully, Aug. 30, 2026, after a prolonged and courageous battle with kidney disease, in his 78th year.
He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and friend to the many who knew him.
Survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan (Sue); his brothers, Herb (Lynn), Perry (Elizabeth) and Paul (Karen); and brothers-in-law, Brian and David Cooke; as well as many nephews and nieces.
Predeceased by his daughter, Theresa; and his parents, Helga and Dietmar (Ted).
Hans started his career at the age of 17 in the Royal Canadian Navy, serving out of CFB Halifax, Nova Scotia. After several years at various companies developing his skills and attaining his qualifications, he began his 42-year career with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) at the Bruce Nuclear site, including a brief sojourn at Darlington Power Station in Oshawa. His last 35 years were serving as a control operator.
He was a staunch supporter of the Kincardine community, and enjoyed the country setting, going out in nature, hiking and cross-country skiing. He had a love for being on the shores and on the waves of Lake Huron. He took great interest in boating on the lake and taking many photographs with his treasured camera.
The local culture, which included the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band, town parades and local car shows, was a constant source of enjoyment for him and his visitors. He volunteered at the local fish hatchery and served as the treasurer for several years.
When he wasn’t taking in the local sights, Hans loved to travel far and wide, organizing many trips and cruises for himself and Sue and any friends who joined them on these junkets. One of his favourite destinations was his hometown of Salzburg, Austria, where his infectious belly laughs will be missed by his many beloved cousins, particularly Klaus (Isabella).
His many and diverse interests included all things automotive: the latest in cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats. He also loved his food, often barbecuing and trying out new restaurants.
When taking a rest from all that activity he loved to watch a good TV show, including comedies and old movies. Among his favourites were the “Dusters” (Westerns) and Murder Mysteries, and he enjoyed all manner of car racing, from Formula 1 to NASCAR.
Hans enjoyed life and was ready to try new things, such as parachuting with his dad and brother, home projects, and generously lending his time and talents to family, friends and neighbours. These skills were learned and acquired largely through the construction of a custom home he had built to his specifications while acting as the general contractor.
Our dear Hans will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and his remains will be interred in Kincardine Cemetery alongside his beloved daughter.

Our gratitude to Dr. Jason Murray, the staff at the Kincardine Hospital, the peritoneal dialysis unit and the CCITC at London Health Sciences Centre and local home care team. We are so fortunate to live in Canada and have these resources available to care for our loved ones.
