Tiverton firefighter wins gold at FireFit Championships in New Brunswick

Greg Simmons (above) of Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services, Tiverton Station, has won gold in the over-50 age group, at the FireFit Championships, held Sept. 9-13, in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

He also competed for the first time in the mixed-double Tech2 competition and came in second.

In June, Simmons won gold, in his age category, at the FireFit competition in Sarnia, and again in August in Brantford. He has competed in previous years as well, but only as an individual not on a team.

Simmons lives in Tiverton and works at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) which gave him the time off to compete in Fredericton; the previous competitions were held on weekends.

He has been a Tiverton firefighter for more than 10 years.
