Kincardine Terry Fox Run raises almost $20,000 for cancer research

It was a cool, overcast Sunday morning as a crowd gathered at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine for the 46th annual Terry Fox Run. More than 50 participants raised $18,542 for cancer research.

Event organizer Melanie Milne welcomed everyone and thanked all those participating, as well as the volunteers, who help make the event such a success.

"The first Kincardine Terry Fox Run was held 44 years ago and over that time, we've raised almost half-a-million dollars for cancer research," she said. "We have so much to be proud of and thankful for. This research is important because it's improving and saving lives, and it means better outcomes are possible for people living with cancer.

"This event is always about community because together, we can finish it."

Members of the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team were manning the four water stations along the five-kilometre and 10-kilometre routes.

Mike Brough kept the energy going with his music and MC talents, and thanked the many sponsors of the run.

Following the singing of “O Canada,” No Drama Fitness and the West Shore Runners conducted a warm-up.

The Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band led the participants in a lap around the outdoor track and then the group headed off to walk, run or roll in either the five-kilometre course or the 10-kilometre course.
