Kincardine Legion Corner

Trivia Night is tomorrow night (Oct. 2) and there are still a few tables left, so drop in to the Legion bar to sign up your team. We also heard there is a team that is in need of a couple of players, so if you want to join that team, just stop in and ask one of our bartenders about it.

As we prepare for Remembrance Day and our Poppy Campaign, we want to remind you that Thursday, Oct. 15, is our Annual Envelope Stuffing Day. If you would like to help us stuff poppies into envelopes, join us and help us prepare for the 2026 Poppy Campaign. Coffee and muffins will be available, and we will be starting at 9 a.m. Thank you, in advance, and feel free to bring a friend!

Early Bird Membership Renewal is officially under way! Renew your membership between now and the end of November for just $55 to save $10 off the regular price. Getting it sorted out early also puts your name in the draw for some fantastic perks. Renew before the end of October to enter a draw for two tickets to our New Year’s Eve party featuring Adam Cousins. You can easily complete your renewal on-line or simply drop by the Legion bar to pay in person. A special reminder for our veterans: renew right at the branch or via E-transfer to kincardinelegion@gmail.com to ensure you receive your $50 veteran renewal rate, as the on-line system charges the standard $55. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to reach out to our membership chairperson, Kim.

Looking for a fantastic lunch spot? Starting Monday, Oct. 5, our weekday Soup and Bun lunch special will be officially under way at Branch 183. Drop in Monday to Friday, from Noon to 2 p.m., to grab a cup of the day’s soup and a fresh roll for only $5. Head over to our Facebook page to check out the weekly soup line-up and see what's on the menu for each day.

A big thank you to everyone who attended the introductory meeting of our new Kincardine Men’s Shed group! We had a fantastic turn-out, and Fred Wolsey organized a really sharp, well-run session to introduce the concept to the community. Designed as a welcoming, pressure-free space for men to eventually collaborate on projects, pursue hobbies, share practical skills, or just enjoy good conversation over a coffee, the initiative is already off to an impressive start. If you missed the first session or are curious about getting involved, the next meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m., and newcomers are always welcome. Coffee will be available for $1.75 a cup.

There was a good crowd for the introductory meeting of the Men’s Shed group in the Kincardine Legion Hall, Wednesday

The Branch 183 Golf Tournament was held at Ainsdale Golf Course, Sunday, Sept. 27, with 48 golfers out on the links. Congratulations to the winning team - Phil and Shelley Gauthier and Noel and Corrine Cleary. The winners in the ‘Longest Drive’ contest for the men and women were Don Rosart and Candy Hewitt, respectively. The ‘Closest to the Pin’ winners for men and women were Phil Gauthier and Shannon Allen, respectively. The weather was great, the comradeship was flowing, everyone had a great day, followed by an excellent supper back at the branch. Cathy sends out her thanks to Mike, Holly, Kirk, Stephanie, Carol and Marilyn for working the kitchen and bar for the event on Sunday. See you all next year!

Our September Kin Cares 50/50 draw closed at midnight Wednesday. The live draw for the big jackpot was held today (Oct. 1) at Grey Matter Beer Company. A big thanks to Grey Matter for agreeing to guest host our mobile ticket terminal for the entire month of October. It will be very easy to grab your October tickets when you're there for food or refreshments. Congratulations again to Ashley Baldwin, who dropped in to the branch to pick up her $250 winnings in the Early Bird Draw.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, the prizes were all evenly distributed with no double-dippers at all. Looking at the winners though, we did have quite a few whose names seemed to start with the letter C and D this past week, such as Deb, David, Cathy, Christine, Carolyn, and also a different Cathy. Congratulations to all the winners as well as to Shelly Grieve who was the 50/50 draw winner and took home a cash prize of $107.

Lastly, thanks to everyone who came to our September Music Bingo Night last Friday. We had a good crowd and some great music, and we definitely saw more band shirts in the crowd. So, let's keep that up and perhaps create the beginning of a tradition where you wear your favourite T-shirt to Music Bingo. MC Russ helped everyone with the songs they didn't know, and while we had a bit of cross-pollination on some of the playlists, it's always fun to sing "Cotton Eye Joe" three times, right?
