The Bruce County Public Library is seeking community-minded residents to help guide the future of library services across the county. The library welcomes applications from individuals interested in serving as one of three public trustees.
The board provides strategic leadership and governance for the public library. It sets the library’s vision and priorities, approves the policies, oversees financial stewardship and advocates for public library services. It also supports and evaluates the library director/chief executive officer who manages the library’s day-to-day operations.
The library board includes four members of Bruce County council in addition to the three public trustees. Preference may be given to appointing trustees to ensure equal representation from three geographic areas:
Inland: Arran-Elderslie, Brockton and South Bruce
Coastline: Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine and Saugeen Shores
North: South Bruce Peninsula and Northern Bruce Peninsula
“Public libraries are more than just books," says Brooke McLean, director of library services. "They play an important role in building strong, informed and connected communities. Serving as a public trustee is an opportunity for residents who care about life-long learning and community growth to make a difference.”
The library welcomes applications from people with a variety of lived experiences, professional backgrounds and community connections. Ideal candidates believe in the value of public libraries, think strategically, work collaboratively and support the principles of intellectual freedom.
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be at least 18 years of age
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
Live in Bruce County
Not be employed by Bruce County, Bruce County Public Library or one of the eight local municipalities
Interested residents can learn more and apply at www.brucecounty.on.ca/BCPLTrustee. Applications are open until Nov. 5.
