(ORILLIA, ON) - Throughout the long weekend, the OPP focused on behaviours that continue to contribute to serious and fatal collisions, including impaired driving, inattentive driving, speeding, and improper use of, or failure to wear, seatbelts.
From Oct. 9-12, the OPP laid more than 9,800 traffic-related charges including:
4,924 for speeding
506 for seatbelt non-compliance
174 for impaired driving
108 for distracted driving
This weekend's traffic safety initiative was part of Operation Impact, an annual national campaign led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police to help improve road safety across Canada.
The OPP thanks everyone who acted responsibly and helped contribute to safer roads during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. The OPP encourages all motorists to keep making safety a priority every time they get behind a wheel.
