Beautiful, sunny, cool weather greeted the 128 golfers in the Movember in September Golf Classic, held Friday afternoon, Sept. 18, at Ainsdale Golf Course.
This was the biggest tournament yet, raising $35,500, said organizer Todd Thompson.
And there's more to come, with the on-line auction of a signed Easton Cowan Toronto Maple Leafs jersey and a signed Kyle Lowry Toronto Raptors jersey, which will take place in November. For details send an E-mail message to Thompson at thompsontc@hurontel.on.ca.
In the seven years since Movember in September began, the community has raised $186,500 (plus what the auction will bring in this year), said Thompson.
It's all in support of Movember Canada which provides programs and research for not only prostate and testicular cancer but also men’s mental health.
Thompson appreciates all the volunteers who helped out with the event, including Erin Simmons, Donna Bridge, Jennifer White, Nolan Thompson, Kevin Wright, Linda Bowers, Ginny Ross, Heather Collins, Craig Milburn, and Tara and Ryan McGinn.
Special thanks to the title sponsors: Royal Bank, Power Workers' Union, Society of United Professionals, Specsavers Cambridge Centre, VG Renovations, Wingham Sportsman Association, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, and the Kincardine Legion.
Duncan and Lesley Hawthorne also donated $10,000 to the cause.
One-in-seven Canadian men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, while one-in-250 will get testicular cancer. Seventy-five per cent of all suicides in Canada are men.
