The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday morning. President Bev Berndt welcomed everyone and read a poem about Remembrance Day.
After the usual openings and the land acknowledgement, 10 members answered the Roll Call with a fact about Switzerland. The alps, cow bells, Swiss chocolate and the Swiss army knife were among the responses.
Betty Jean White read the minutes of the last meeting and Islay Eby gave the treasurer’s report. The bills were paid. Betty Jean read a thank you from Mildred Griffith for the tea party and gifts received at her recent 100th birthday.
Islay gave a report on the Bruce District Rally held in Chepstow, Oct. 22. Ellen Waye reported on 2027 bylaw changes with the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario (FWIO).
Betty Jean then gave a slide presentation of the trip she and her daughter, Marilyn, took to Switzerland in September. They flew to Zurich and toured Lacerne, St. Mirz, Zermatt and Matter Horn. Highlights included going up to the glacier(12,000 feet), seeing all the countryside and mountains, and the United Nations building at Geneva. The food was excellent, with many chocolate fondues – certainly the trip of a lifetime.
Ellen will organize reprinting our cook book for the Kincardine Food Bank.
The meeting closed with the Closing Ode and “God Save the King.”
The next meeting will be our Christmas Potluck, Dec. 2, at the Bervie church. Bring a stamped Christmas card and a donation for the food bank.
