Community will miss Duncan Hawthorne and his smile, says reader
To the Editor:
RE: "Hawthorne returning to U.K. after he retires April 30"
I have never met Duncan Hawthorne (retired president and chief executive officer of Bruce Power), but I feel as if I know him. He has done so much for us in the Bruce, and he has been front-and-centre in our community.
I want to tell you that he and his wife, Lesley, also have made changes outside the Bruce.
My grandson has Cerebral Palsy (CP), and in 2011, the Hawthornes made a very generous donation to Woodeden Easter Seals Camp, just outside of London. At that time, the Duncan and Lesley Hawthorne building was named in their honour. Duncan was also made chairman for Easter Seals in 2012. I know there are many more contributions he has made, but this one is near-and-dear to my heart.
I think what I will miss most is his smile. No matter where you see him, on the street, in the grocery store, or downtown, he always has a smile on his face.
I wish him and Lesley all the best in his new endeavour, and look forward to seeing him this summer.
Sincerely,
Ann Windsor,
Kincardine
