Ripley Wolves down Shelburne; have to reschedule with Winterhawks
The Ripley Wolves downed Shelburne Friday night, but were unable to complete the Saturday night game against Saugeen Shores due to equipment failure, in Senior "A" hockey action on the weekend.
On home ice at the Ripley Arena, Friday night, the Wolves took a 6-1 win against the Muskies.
Ripley opened the scoring early in the first, when Travis VanGaver scored from Jeremy McQuillin and Nick Locking.
Midway through the period, Mark Stanley put the Wolves ahead 2-0, on a powerplay goal, assisted by Tyler McCarthy and Drew Davidson.
Mark Stanley fired in a short-handed goal part-way through the second period, assisted by McQuillin, to give the Wolves a three-goal lead, before Shelburne got on the board, to head into the final frame with a 3-1 score.
The Wolves owned the third period, scoring three unanswered goals to take the 6-1 win.
Mark Stanley had his hat-trick goal seconds into the final period, assisted by Cody Britton; David Jones scored from Paul Stewart and Devin Kemp; and then Kemp had a powerplay, unassisted effort, to round out the scoring.
The Wolves hosted the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, Saturday night, and were tied, 1-1, by the end of the first period. However, the ice-resurfacing machine malfunctioned and the game could not continue. That match has been rescheduled to Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1, but officials are unsure whether the teams will have to play the first period over, or start at period two.
Meanwhile, the Wolves take on Shallow Lake, this Saturday night at the Ripley Arena, at 7:30 p.m. Just prior to that game, the Wolves will induct Marina Cameron, Pat Chatham and Jane VanSickle into their Wall of Fame.
