The Bruce County Blues Society is celebrating its 10th anniversary, Saturday, April 2, with a special show at the Sutton Park Inn, Kincardine, featuring Memphis Bluesman Brandon Santini.
The Bruce County Blues was formed in early 2006 by a local group of Blues fans who wanted to provide the community with the opportunity to hear professional Blues artists without the trouble and expense of travelling to the big city. The group organized its first event in March, 2006, and since then, it stages about four to five shows per year, bringing nationally- and internationally-touring artists to this area, as well as a number of shows that feature local musicians.
The organization is also responsible for the highly-popular and educational “Blues in the Schools” program that every year brings professional musicians to perform in area schools.
“We are a not-for-profit organization,” says president Marilyn Clarke, “so the money raised at our shows and through our memberships, enables us to provide these musical assemblies to area schools at no charge - performances that would otherwise be too expensive for the schools.”
Each year Bruce County Blues extends its “Blues in the Schools” program to area schools, reaching more than 1,000 students.
The group has about 200 members and is led by a volunteer board of 10 executive members. The 10th anniversary will feature Blues harp player Brandon Santini of Memphis, Tennessee, who is touring in support of his recently-released CD which has been nominated for a Blues Music Award.
Tickets for Saturday’s celebration are $20 each ($15 each for Bruce County Blues members); available at the Sutton Park Inn, Jerome Flowers and Gifts, or at the door.
