$500,000 loss in C&M Construction building fire

The fire Friday night at C&M Construction, south of Armow on Sideroad 15, has resulted in a total loss of the building and its contents, estimated at more than $500,000.

Kincardine fire chief Kent Padfield said the call came in at 7:24 p.m., and firefighters arrived to find a storage shed engulfed in flames. Crews from Tiverton and Kincardine stations worked for several hours to extinguish the fire, and the Ripley-Huron Fire Department assisted by providing a water tanker.
The fire was contained to two storage sheds that were side by side, and there were no injuries reported.

“The structure was fully involved when crews arrived," said Padfield. "Responders had to deal with propane tanks located close to the fire. The propane tanks were turned off and moved to safety.  All tasks were completed efficiently."

He said the source of the fire is still under investigation. The Ontario Fire Marshall was consulted as part of the investigation, with no fire investigator being assigned.
