Huron OPP investigating fatality north of Goderich

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) -  Huron County OPP and members from the OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred early Tuesday evening, Jan. 27, just north of Goderich. 

At 6:45 p.m., officers from the Huron County OPP Detachment, along with the Goderich Fire Department and Huron County EMS, responded to a two-vehicle crash on Bluewater Veterans Highway (Highway 21) just north of Saltford Road.  

Preliminary investigation has determined that a Pontiac Montana mini-van was travelling northbound on Bluewater Veterans Highway when the driver attempted to overtake another northbound vehicle. The mini-van crossed over the centre line and collided with a Ford F-350 pick-up truck that was travelling southbound. 

The driver and lone occupant of the mini-van died at the scene. He has been identified as 44-year-old Michael ESSERY of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh. A post-mortem examination was scheduled for Wednesday (Jan. 28).

The 28-year-old male driver of the Ford F-350 was uninjured.    

Bluewater Veterans Highway remains closed between Saltford Road and MTO Road.
