The Kincardine Montgomery Ford Midget girls had a busy week of games as they near the end of regular season, awaiting the start of playoff's which should begin sometime during the first week in February.
The team rented a bus for a trip to Lion's Head to play Bruce Peninsula Wednesday night. With no time for dinner prior to bus departing, Montgomery Ford's new general manager, Craig Beck, supplied the girls and coaching staff with pizza for the trip north which everyone enjoyed.
After the long trip, the team had its stretch and went into battle, with a close game, ending in a 4-4 tie. The Ford girls came from behind and scored the equalizer with just 1:25 left on the clock. This tie made the trip home more enjoyable with the team trying to study for exams on the bus.
On the weekend, the Ford girls played two games at the Davidson Centre. Saturday was against the Walkerton "B" team which was another very close match which the Ford girls won, 2-1. Once again, the Kinucks came from behind, scoring two goals in the third period for the victory.
Sunday, following the Bulldogs game, the girls had another nail-biter and put together a very tough-fought 3-2 win over Bruce Peninsula, clinching the game in the third with four minutes left to play. The coaches were very pleased with the girls' effort!
Scoring for the team over the three games were: Megan Stewart-Kemp (1), Rainor Kuz (1), Kelsey Padfield (1), Eden McFarlane (3) and Georgia Fields (3).
The team has two more games at home this weekend, then the Silver Stick tournament Feb. 6-8 in Saugeen Shores. Game times are posted on the website.
