Kincardine hospital auxiliary celebrates with awards, flowers and desserts

Awards, flowers and desserts were the highlights of the May 25 meeting of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine hospital auxiliary.

President Carol Collins welcomed 22 members and three gift shop volunteers, Shirley Marie Harris, Joan Wood and Lois Dwan.

The awards committee: Ginny Ross, Bonnie Stark and Bessie Farrell, were honoured to announce this year's award winners:
 

• Five-year service certificate: Marilynn Buffo and Linda MacTavish
• Ten-year service certificate and “V”-pin: Kaye MacDonald and Bessie Farrell - Farrell had achieved her 10-year in 2013 but could not attend the 2013 award evening and missed receiving her award
• Twenty-year service: Karen Nancekivell - Kincardine Auxiliary Life Membership and HAAO pin

These awards are very special and serve to celebrate and recognize members for their volunteer time and efforts. Unfortunately, Linda MacTavish and Kaye MacDonald were unable to attend.

Nicole Whitwell thanked everyone on behalf of the geranium committee - Judy Lackner, Carol Collins, Liz Nurton and Whitwell - who helped make this year's Geranium Sale a successful event. The weather was perfect with a beautiful sunny afternoon and the auxiliary thanks the many, many people who purchased 2,100 plants in support of raising money for our local hospital.

Collins thanked Whitwell for organizing this annual fund-raiser.

Pat Emmerton displayed the sign for the auxiliary Quilt Raffle. Tickets are now available - $2 each or three for $5 - for the queen size quilt – Bear Tracks – donated by the Kincardine Sunset Quilters' Guild, and a hand-crocheted white afghan donated by the Estate of Jerry Whynotte. The draw date is our Christmas meeting date of Nov. 23. Everyone has plenty of time to buy tickets this summer at the Monday Market in the Park and at the downtown Cruise Nights on Friday evenings of the holiday long weekends.

Lia Ellyatt, gift shop account treasurer since 2012 and TV rental account treasurer, which she had recently accepted, has made a decision to continue her very active retirement life and move to the London area. We will miss you, Lia, and wish you all the best. This means we are looking for volunteers to take over these two positions. Anyone with accounting experience, who is interested in contributing a couple of hours per week of their volunteer time to support our organization, please call Carol Collins at 519-395-5131.

Our next meeting will be at the home of Pat Emmerton, 48 Boiler Beach Rd, June 22, at 6 p.m., which is a potluck. Bring your favourite dish!
